Time to give...

This was supposed to be a joke, but after I read, it felt as if it was something with true meaning and purpose of life:

A man spoke with the Lord about heaven and hell. The Lord said to the man, "Come, I will show you hell." They entered a room where a group of people sat around a huge pot of stew. Everyone was famished, desperate and starving. Each held a spoon that reached the pot, but each spoon had a handle so much longer than their own arm that it could not be used to get the stew into their own mouths. The suffering was terrible.

"Come, now I will show you heaven," the Lord said after a while. They entered another room, identical to the first - the pot of stew, the group of people, the same long-handled spoons. But there everyone was happy and well-nourished.

"I don't understand," said the man. "Why are they happy here when they were miserable in the other room and everything was the same?"

The Lord smiled, "Ah, it is simple," he said. "Here they have learned to feed each other."

We create our own hell and our own heaven. Only difference that makes our lives heaven on earth or hell is when we choose to be either generous or selfish.

We just keep on struggling all our lives. Trying to reach out for everything that we need and it gets more and more difficult as we only think about ourselves, our lives our children or our family at the most.

Because we stay only on receiving end of life. We never understand that if we learn to give away that load we have around us, we would achieve that serenity we are looking for in those things. Because serenity and true happiness is achieved only by turning around expectation into acceptance. We actually take pride in helping others with what is already an excess baggage.

Giving away what is more than we need is good. But that is our duty not an actual virtue. The real virtue begins, when we give away everything we want for ourselves generously or at least share those generously what ever we have and what we like the most. All that we already have is in fact our debt to society and a debt that needs to be returned. It is the trust we received from people and the society. The best of all we can share and distribute is love, care, our capabilities and our ability, smiles and the comfort we enjoy.

If we want the best of all, we must learn to have a heart, ready give away and share the best with others only then the heavenly cycle of give and receive starts.

Our Lord promised, that He would give back 10 times of what we giveaway to other.

But do we actually understand what is actually required by him to give? Not that extra stuff,  because He says " Give the best of things you have, would you like to receive something unwanted? or extra from me? or you want the best?
